This 30m high quality, natural, nylon-free dental floss is coated with candelilla wax and flavoured with mint. The core is made from peace silk (Ahimsa silk) – that means the silk is harvested in a non-violent, vegan-friendly way from empty spun cocoons. Wild silk moths complete their cycle from silkworm to moth flying away without harm and the silk is spun from the empty cocoons. Standard silk production involves moths dying for silk cocoons, this does not happen with peace silk.
Being all-natural, it is free from harmful chemicals that are commonly found in commercial dental floss, like perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl. It is also entirely biodegradable after use, and is free from environmentally problematic substances like nylon that take up to 90 years to decompose, posing a danger to wildlife and waterways.
This peace silk floss is designed to be gentle on teeth and gums, yet effective at reducing risk of cavities, improving dental health, helping to prevent gum disease, reducing bad breath, and helping to remove plaque and harmful bacteria. It is much more pleasant and smooth to use than corn silk floss which is too fibrous and gets stuck between your teeth.

It is gentle on teeth and gums, yet effective at:

Why go natural?
Because conventional floss is usually made from nylon, and treated with perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemical substances. The nylon generally ends up in the environment or landfills, where it can take up to 90 years to decompose, during which time it poses a threat to wildlife and leaking micro-plastics into the waterways. The chemical treatments used to strengthen and water-proof the nylon core has also been found in human’s bloodstream and has been linked to increase cancer risks (higher concentrations = higher risk). Using a natural floss made from silk means it can easily be composted after use, and it will not pose any health risks while in use.
The silk in question is also special: it is peace silk (Ahimsa silk). Meaning it is wild-harvested after the silk moths have completed their metamorphosis and flown away, i.e. empty cacoons are use for spinning the silk, and no moths are harmed in the process. Technically not vegan, but vegan-friendly in that it is cruelty-free.
The silk is strengthened with candelilla wax and flavoured with mint, and the texture is just right – smooth, gentle, yet firm. In fact, the texture is even better than another natural type of floss which uses corn PLA (the latter is too fibrous and can get stuck in your teeth, whereas the peace silk won’t).
It comes either in glass or in an economical refill option.
