Mini Matters Nappy Snap-Duo Shell / PUL Cover – Plain (OSFM All-In-Two)

R145.00

The Mini Matters SNAP-DUO shell is part of the all-in-two nappy system, and fits babies approximately 5 – 17kgs (generally 6 – 24 months). The SNAP-DUO system consists of this wipeable shell and a Snap-in Trifold insert that snaps into the shell via a stud press. The shell can be wiped down and re-used between changes while only replacing the insert, so your most economical option is 3 Snap-in Trifold inserts for every shell purchased. It is space-saving, economical, easy to use and time saving!

Trifold inserts do not come included with the shell and can be purchased separately here. The shell can also be used without inserts as a waterproof PUL cover (e.g. for use with flats or fitted nappies).

Sold as singles, in a variety of monochrome colours and white trim, suitable for most baby sizes (6 – 24 months, or 5 – 17 kg).

Description

Mini Matters Snap-in Trifolds are made of 100% locally grown thirsty cotton. The trifold style (meaning it’s a large square insert that fold in three) allows for superior absorbency and quick drying times. These upgraded inserts are now softer and more absorbent than ever before!

A true all-in-two nappy system consists of a wipeable, waterproof shell and inserts that snap into the shell. Unlike pocket style nappies, you only need to use one insert in your shell at a time as the Mini Matters Snap-Duo Inserts are trifold style (meaning its a large, square shaped insert which gets folded in three so you get all the absorbency you need in one piece with quick drying times). Because the shell is wipeable, it can be re-used around 3 times before it needs to be washed, assuming no poop gets onto the cover. You can wipe it down with a damp cloth in between changes.

The following can be purchased separately:

Optional extras to be purchased separately:

  • A booster can be added for heavy wetters (the additional boosters should go on top of the trifold)
  • A suedecloth liner for easier cleaning

Using the Snap-Duo system means you end up needing fewer shells and pieces, so a full time stash takes up a lot less space and works out very affordable. These are also a great option for travelling as you only need to pop one shell with a few inserts in your nappy bag to ensure you have enough changes to last you a while.

For the most economical option, we recommend that you purchase 3 inserts for every shell. For a full time daytime set we recommend around 7 covers with 21 inserts. A full time daytime set can cost as little as R2800, the most affordable modern cloth diapering option available when compared to other options that offer the same level of superior absorbency.

Why use reusable cloth nappies instead of disposable nappies? Because:

  • Cloth made from natural fibres such as cotton, hemp or bamboo are breathable and free from chemicals found in disposables, i.e. healthier for your baby’s skin, leading to fewer rashes, skin irritations and tears
  • It’s reusable, i.e. more cost-effective than disposables in the long run (do the maths how many disposable nappies a baby needs in total, compared to a few full-time reusable nappies in total)
  • Because it’s reusable and biodegradable, it is more environmentally friendly (a disposable nappy takes 450 years to break down… do the maths on how many disposable nappies are trashed for a single baby… that’s a lot of single-use trash that literally takes centuries to decompose! A cloth nappy takes 6 months to decompose in a hot compost pile at home)
  • Because Mini Matters cloth nappies are durable, popular and highly prized, it also has great resell value on the second-hand market for mums looking to save.

Directions for use:

  1. Option 1: Use a Snap-In Trifold as insert – fold the trifold along the stitched lines to form a long insert and snap in the trifold insert
  2. Option 2: Use a fitted nappy as insert – fold the fitted nappy around baby and secure in place with a Snappi
  3. Option 3: Use a flat nappy as insert – fold the flat nappy in a triangle or pad-fold it, wrap around baby and secure in place with a Snappi
  4. Optionally add a booster (for extra absorbency) or a suedecloth liner (for easier cleaning of solids)
  5. Put the nappy shell / cover on baby, adjusting the outside studs to fit your baby’s body size
  6. When it’s time for a nappy change, remove the insert, wipe down the cover if necessary and place a clean insert in the shell.
  7. You can use the shell about 3 times this way before changing to a new one.

Note:

Not recommended for nighttime use – rather use the Mini Matters softshell covers for nighttime.

Washing:

Nappies can be washed by hand or by machine. No need to soak nappies. Simply shake off excess solids into the toilet and leave them in your dry bucket until wash day. The most effective washing routine includes:

  1. Rinse cycle
  2. Wash on 30 to 40 degrees (a cold wash works just as well) using detergent of your choice
  3. Rinse again.

You might need to do an additional rinse if there is still some detergent or soap in the water. Fabric softener should never be used when washing your nappies. Line dry only – do not use washing pegs and do not tumble dry, as it may damage the waterproofing.

Bum cream:

Cloth nappies are much healthier than disposables and will lead to fewer nappy rashes; however, it can still occur. Avoid using conventional bum creams, barrier creams or petroleum jellies. The artificial and non-biodegradable chemicals affect the absorbency of your nappy and can cause build-up on the fibres, reducing the nappy’s efficiency.  Instead, use coconut oil (that is naturally anti-bacterial), or a cloth friendly product like Simply Bee Baby Bum Balm, if you feel the need to use something.
